XFX 9600GT: Best bang for buck *****

One of the first video cards bearing the 9 series name, does it live up to the hype?

Accessories: The XFX 9600GT comes with the standard amount of accessories. They include: a door tag saying “Do not disturb”, DVI-VGA adapter, molex to 6 pin adapter, Driver CD.

Games performance: The XFX 9600GT is an extremely excellent performer for its price. I paid $80 for it brand new at NCIX. The level of performance is almost the same as the famous 8800GT and on par with ATI’s offering, the 3870. It will tackle and lavish on Source games (1680X1050,2XAA) for breakfast, COD4/WaW/MW2 for lunch, and other today’s games with no AA. Even Battlefield Bad Company 2 with ease provided that you have a beefy processor.

Temperatures and sound: The stock single cooler on the 9600GT is more than adequate for cooling this efficient beast. Even with a dust-clogged cooler, idle temperatures stay at a frosty 45C while load temperatures are at a warm 70C. At 30 cooling capacity, the stock cooler is very quiet. It is only above 90 will you hear a jet take off.

Overclocking: Scouring the web, I found out that many people got the core up to 740+. My XFX 9600GT could not hit these speeds. It would do 700 core just fine but above it, it would artifact. Note: Overclocking can damage your card and individual mileage may vary.

Warranty/Customer Service: XFX in North American provides lifetime warranty for not only one, but two owners. This can greatly increase the resale value of the video card. Also, XFX was very generous because I needed a DVI-HDMI adapter for my HDTV and they sent one to me, along with the SPIDF cable for free! This is awesome customer service.

Do you think it lives up to the hype? Hell YES! Combined with insane performance, a cheap price, and excellent customer service, the XFX 9600GT is a keeper for years to come.
